A six-session course exploring everyday flourishing.
Overview
How can we flourish here, now, in a world that’s both beautiful and broken?
We live in a world of astonishing beauty, creativity, and possibility, as well as profound suffering, injustice, and loss. There is much worth loving just as it is and much that urgently needs to change. How can we engage with this tension?
Our desire to change the world often obscures the world as it is. We become increasingly certain of what must happen, pushing harder against how things are. But complex, living systems don’t respond predictably to force. Without even realizing it, we can reinforce the patterns we’re trying to shift. Luckily, there’s an alternative.
We can care deeply without needing to control what happens next and resist what causes harm while remaining curious. We can act with conviction while holding our ideas lightly. And we can accept the reality of this moment without accepting that it will remain this way forever.
Flourishing Now is a six-session course that draws from contemplative traditions, philosophy, cognitive science, complexity science, and more. Each two-hour gathering will be more like a jam session than a formal class, with a mix of conversation, meditation, and other contemplative practices.
